Error 0x80070017 in Vista

Hi all,

I have reinstalled Vista Basic on a Toshiba laptop using the recovery disc which came with the laptop. It worked fine with no issues during installation. The problem arose when I tried to install Vista service pack 1, I got the above error.

I was installing the service pack from a portable harddrive and felt this might be the problem so I downloaded a fresh copy straight to the desktop and got the same error code.

Any ideas woulf be much appreciated.

Stephen

Looking at that specific message it seems to be linked to installing vista off of an image. I haven't found it in reference to doing a service pack upgrade. But I would skip doing it manually and just try it automatically through the windows update agent.

Thanks for the reply kryyst, I'll give that a go and post back, more that likely tomorrow at this stage.

Finally got around to installing the updates automatically through the windows update agent. There was about 102 updates it said it was'nt able to install 10 and gave two errors, one was the one above and the other was:
    Error code 80070026

The laptop is running OKish but is very slow to respond to clicks of the mouse and to open applications. Slow starting up as well.
