FireWire and Pinnacle Studio Problem

I recently bought Pinnacle Studio 14 so I could transfer tapes from my digital video camera to my latop. I bought a firewire cable today from Best Buy. I hooked it up to my laptop and digital video camera, but my laptop would not recognize the camera. I have a Sony DCR-HC30 video camera and a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I'm not sure what the problem is, or if the firewire cable is just faulty.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Probably driver problems. Have a look on the Sony Support section of their website and look for driver/software downloads for your model camera.

    Disconnect the camera, install the software then try again.
