Upgrading CPU Server 2003

Hey guys,

We have three or four servers with Pentium D chips that we want to upgrade to Core 2 Duos (the motherboards are compatible). The servers are running Windows Server 2003. If I just pop out the Pentium Ds and put in the Core 2 Duos, is Windows going to give me trouble when I boot back up, or will everything be smooth?

Thanks

Everything should be smooth, provided the BIOS in those motherboards are updated to support the C2Ds.

Agree with Thrax... as long as the manufacturer of the motherboard claims it supports the Core 2 Duo and the BIOS supports it... backup the system, power down, swap CPU's, fire it up, reset BIOS, and then go back into Server 2003.

Okay great; that's what I wanted to hear. I wasn't sure if Windows would want to reactivate or what. Thanks guys
