Apple iphone 3gs 16gb problem

edited July 2010 in Science & Tech
Hi guys,

I am experiencing a very strange problem on my iphone.
While it is working fine, the touch screen stops responding. the mobile runs fine but touch screen freezes. The way to fix this, is to just turn off the mobile to stand-by mode and then unlock it again.
Anyone has any idea of this problem?

I haven't specifically seen that problem airoh69 but I've found that when something wonky like that happens doing a restore almost always fixes it. Make sure you have backup turned on in iTunes and make sure your backup runs when you sync it before trying a restore. Then click Restore this will restore the OS to the default state for whatever version of the iPhone OS you're running. Then it will ask you if you want to restore your backup, depending on how much data you've got on it this can take a couple of hours so don't do it before walking out the door.

It's a pain in the ass fix for things but you don't have many options to troubleshooting. Having screwed my phone up many times thanks to jailbreaking and installing beta OS versions I've found this has worked almost every time I have a problem, the exception being a hardware issue I had on my 3G and it certainly doesn't sound like this if a hardware issue.

Give it a try, if it doesn't fix it I can do some digging. Don't forget to rinse with unicorn tears.

Well a restore didnt do anything. Here another strange thing. When the touch freezes, when i shake the phone the touch unfreezes

I wonder if the screen's ribbon cable is coming loose internally. Perhaps the hardware occasionally fails to receive the touch input.

hmm. Think i should remove the screen and try to re-set the connectors?
Dont say about proffesionals doing it cause its my job on POS Systems and touch screens:D
Strange though cause this never happened to me.
I also did a little reserch on the net and there are various people having this problem. Something that i forgot to mention is that i change the digitizer cause the screen broke. Like 3-4 days the problem started. But i saw people that havent changed anything having the same problem also. I started thinking that is a software problem? cause if it was hardware, why stop doing it when locking and then unlocking the phone, without even moving the phone

Ok, finally i fixed it. Seems that a program that i have installed on the phone was causing this problem. I removed all the programs and the problem stopped occuring. Strange isnt it?

This same exact thing happened to me, in almost the exact time frame. I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. I cracked my glass on June 9th, replaced the digitizer on the 10th, and started seeing this screen freeze pretty soon after, where the home button and lock key were active but the touch screen was unresponsive. If I lock the phone, then punch the home key, I'm back in business, but the freeze occurs at random times, which makes it very inconvenient when you can't answer a call because the screen is frozen and you can't lock the phone without ignoring the call!
You don't happen to know which app it was, do you? I can't remember, but it seems to me that I updated some apps around that time after I completed the repair.
I have not tried shaking the phone when it freezes, but hopefully I won't need to. Did you just delete them from the phone by holding down until the wigglies started and then hit the delete button in the corner of each one, or did you do something else? Any help is appreciated as this is driving me nuts!

P.S. I have also tried carefully re-seating the connectors (1, 2, and 3) twice, which hasn't solved the problem.

Ok. Havent updated the situation after last reply but here how it goes. After a week or so, the problem started again. So i reset my phone but nothing happened. The problem is actually hardware. Try and when the screen freezes push the phone screen with your finger on the top left, where those little almost invinsible dots are. If you do that it will start working again. I have found 2 possible solutions. 1. Replace the whole screen with a complete set (glass, digitizer, mic, home button, lcd), that will cost you around 100 euro if you buy it from ebay. 2. Disasemble the phone and replace the 3M tape that is there and try resitting them with a lot of accuracy and leaving no gaps in between.
Well i did number 1 so now i also have 1 spair screen assembly
