    Probably because the Trojan has disabled Ctrl+alt+del. It can be done easily.

    Go to start -> run -> taskmgr.exe

    That'll launch the task manager.

    his trogan horse is really messing me up. ive disabled the internet but things are still changing. sometimes its slow sometimes its not. i cant run half my programs (including anti-virus ones) be because a error sg pops up saying: "this application cannot be found". but i know its on my computer still. taskmanager wasnt working until 20 mins ago. its been going in for days and everything i do o stop it is prevented one way or another. im not all that tech savvy so this is driving me crazy.

    At this juncture, I typically advise that users simply wipe their PC clean and start over. When your foundation is completely rotten, there's no use trying to prop up the house.

    What is the virus? How is it presented? Is it an "anti-virus"?

    The only alternative may be to go out and spend $100 to buy Windows 7. The bonus? You'll upgrade to an awesome OS.

    thanks guys. i actually got combo fix running (after the hundredth time trying) and it seems to have worked. but the computer is just really slow, and it keeps freezing. i dont think its a virus cuz i didnt have it before and all my other problems are gone

    An interesting conclusion that it wasn't a virus after getting combofix to run. I'd say its a fair bet that your log would demonstrate otherwise. Glad to here its mostly working again.

    no my original problem was definately a virus. a trojan horse in fact. but i didnt think the computers slow response time was a virus. im still having that problem in fact. it even freezes if i try to run more than like 3 programs at once

    Ah, my mistake then. If you weren't having this issue prior to the virus, try running "sfc /scannow" from c:\windows\system32 in the command line. That will look at some key windows files and attempt to replace them if it has backups, if not, it will ask for a windows disc to copy from. You could also try to copy them from a known good computer that has the same operating system and same service pack, though that is less advised.

    You may also want to take some time to do hardware testing (memtest86+ for RAM, Prime95 among others for CPU, maybe even video card but that is least likely culprit).
