Recreating RAID 0 array

edited January 2004 in Hardware
Hoping someone can help out here...

I had a Gigabyte mobo w/ onboard RAID. I had 2 WD1200 drives configured with RAID 0. Then the mobo took a dump on me. The drives are fine.

How can I hook these drives into another computer with RAID support without damaging the integrity of the drives? If I create a new array, will that work, or will I make matters even worse?

...and no, I'll never again use RAID 0 for critical data... :-/

If you have Norton System Works, I have had decent luck booting from the Norton CD and running Norton Disk Doctor (ndd.exe). Tell it to look for partitions. If it finds one the size of your old RAID array let it rebuild it.

If you have problems just holler. We'll be glad to help you out. :)

If you create a new array, you will lose all your data. You may be able to get away with hooking them up to a new board/controller, if they use the same controller (IE: Highpoint 372 or whatever you had on your gigabyte)

The stripe is written on the drives - just remember that.

So, if like Shwaip said, you can get your hands on a similar controller (HP --> HP or Promise --> Promise, etc.) you will probably have no trouble at all.

Get as close the same BIOS as possible. It's known that very old BIOS revisions may not support a new BIOS revisions stripe set. .. and vice versa.

    Good luck!
