Team Viewer

edited November 2010 in Science & Tech
Has anyone heard of and tried Team Viewer?

It is free software for PC to PC support.

Also after trying to remove a virus from my PC - I can no longer access HTTP sites - I can only access HTTPS. Any ideas?

-Never used PC to PC. I do use LogMeIn ignition on a regular basis and standard M$ Remote Desktop. Both are great. LogMeIn has a free edition that seems to be good enough to me.
    I would:
    - Go to Internet Options in your control Panel and reset everything to defaults
    - Run Malware Bytes along with a full scan from whatever AV software you use (I always recommend Avast)
    - If you still can't get at http, check your AV software quarantine for anything that got nabbed out of your c:\windows\ directory. If there are a few items from that directory post them here and we can tell you if they are relevant to your problem.
    - We may need to clean your hosts file which you can open in notepad, and it it is here: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Did you run any registry scan software recently?

If all else fails we can do a system restore.

I use teamviewer all the time. Awesome for logging in from any PC via their website.

Lets see if Malwarebytes pulls anything then we can suggest some other tools.

I found the website problem to be in the IE tools for LAN settings. For some reason, the proxy server was checked. I unchecked it & it seems to run OK. I was also trying to update Avast but it wasn't updating, so I will reinstall and run Avast and Malwarebytes. Thanks.

I've spent over a week going through this with her. Removed several entries with HJT, ran multiple AV scans and RootKitBuster scans...

Originally the problem was a rogue anti-virus problem. Fixed that and she lost internet...

The second problem? Had manually changed proxy settings in IE....

I asked her to make this post. Why? I haven't used PC->PC support tools and was warey of them and was looking for a solid opinion...

It's all fixed now though...but thanks for the replies guys!

p.s. I'm not pissed at her because of this. Just frustrated at myself for not checking it wayyy sooner :(

Glad to hear it got resolved. I've used Teamviewer many a time over the last few years to help friends/family out when I'm away at school.

Just used TeamViewer to fix a whole raft of issues when we changed ISP. It was most excellent. Way faster than what we've used in the past (CrossLoop) and doesn't require a client-side install if they don't want it.
