My win7 Action Center has been showing this message for a few days now, prompting me to change my AutoUpdate settings to On. I tried, but when I click on "Save Changes", i get the message "Unable to save changes because the service is not running". I checked msconfig and I couldn't find Automatic Update or Windows Update in the Services tab at all. How do I fix this???

Enter Services.msc in the Start Search Bar and hit Return

Make Sure "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" is set for Automatic
Make Sure "Windows Update" is set for Automatic

Both of mine are set for Automatic (Delayed Start)

If the Services wont start then you have other issues...

Give Micorsoft Fixit a try, 7 is not listed in the list but others who have had the missing Windows Update problem have used it with success.

Certain Virus's totally remove the Windows Update Registry Settings... ie Conficker

Below the Fixit program is a Manual Repair option to put the registry keys back.
If you have a Working 7 system to copy the reg keys from that would probably be better.

    Good Luck!

In other words, your computer appears to be the target of a virus. You should change your passwords and scan your PC with trusted programs MBAM and Avast immediately.
