Here is a small observation. I _should_ be looking at this. As an inquisitive kind of fellow with a working hotmail address, I should care. Problem is, I don't. Google mail works great for my needs. How many others are going to feel the same way?

Sounds like they tried to emulate Google Wave, just as Google realized Wave is a dead idea.

It's so very Microsofty to have special (trademark-able?) names like "Active View" and "Sweep" for every single new feature they add. They did the same thing in IE8. It's like without a special new name to attach to it their marketing team won't know what to do with it.

@Shorty that's precisely it, isn't it? Gmail launched when geeks were disgruntled by webmail offerings. I think they probably made a great upgrade here, but they're probably not going to move their marketshare with it.

Hotmail was fine the way it was, it didn't need an upgrade. Now my inbox and delete tabs are in different spots and I have to get used to it all over again.

Heaven forbid anything ever change. Maybe we should all just stagnate and then see how things turn out.

If you keep checking your Hotmail account using Outlook Express on Win98SE then everything is exactly where it's always been.
