File Copying Crash

Hi all

I need your help, I have been using my computer for a year to year and a half without problem. I have recently added a NAS Box (ReadyNAS Duo RND2000) to my network for backup, storage and remote access. I use the PC for Outlook which is open all day, word and excel docs with multiple docs open and pdf (which is slow to open docs even if Adobe is active).

Since putting the NAS on I'm unable to copy large folders between the NAS and internal computer hard drives without the copy crashing and requiring the use of the re-start button (when using system copy, NTI Shadow for ReadyNAS and software called Unstoppable Copier), the PC crashes at least once a day and the system process runs continuously at 100,000k

This all seems to have coincided with the installation of NAS box and NAS backup software onto the PC, however I do not believe the problem is with the software as I have removed and re-installed it a number of times.

Can anyone offer any solutions, information or help?

Thanks
DJKing

remove the nas software from your pc and don't reinstall it. Then see if things become more stable. I have yet to see a good reason to actually use any bundled software that comes with a NAS for doing backups. All you want out of a nas is a good stable connection to it through the network. Once that is established there are many better ways to do backups then whatever software they have thrown in with it.

    Hi
First of all thanks for your reply. Sorry it been some time replying but been on holiday and trying the pc without the backup software as you suggested. The pc is a bit more stable and is not crashing all the time so thanks for that, the pc is still crashing/locking up on copying folders though. I did try doing a copy in safe mode the other day thinking that os might be more stable without a lot of thing running but still had problems.

How are you connecting to your NAS is it over ethernet or wireless? In either case it's possible that your network connections are timing out and the copy is stalling. But that should only be happening if you are trying to copy large amounts of data say in the 5+ gb range or a smaller amount of data but many many files/folders.
