XP lockup after login

edited August 2010 in Science & Tech
I have a XP machine that locks up either during login or just after i get logged in. Mouse moves but can't click on anything. Safe mode works fine. I tried doing a repair install but i don't get the option of doing a repair with my disks. I would like to just do a fresh install but i have several thousand $$ worth of software on the computer that requires new licensing with a new install (stupid, i know but nothing i can do about it).

what software do you have? None that I know of actually requires a new licensing if you are re-installing it onto the computer it was originally installed on. Though you may have to call in to their licensing support software for them to allow it.

If you can get into safemode try running (from the command prompt) sfc /scannow

It is custom software for diagnosing truck engines. You even have to get a new license if you change the domain name on the computer. It's that ridiculous!!! I think i have it cased. I did the repair from repair console that i found on this site and it seems to be working alright for now.

    Cheers
