PC's been blue sceening me once or twice every morning and then runs fine rest of day. Ran Reg mechanic and cleaned reg up. Ran chkdsk. Didn't help. This morning I started in safe mode and checked all hardware and its ok. Restarted and it stuck in a loop-restarting. So, I cleared CMOS and now I don't know all the settings for the advanced chipset features. Anyone know where I can get the settings for this? I finally got it to start with the XP Dos A\:> prompt from floppy. So, I think I might be able to run the repair from the cd. But how do I get to it? Haven't done this for a long time and I can't remember. Am on wifeys pc to get here. And Mines Not Folding!

It was saying some thing to the effect that there was a critical error and pc will restart --check graphics--fastwrites etc, it would go by so fast I couldn't read it. It was just telling me to check basic stuff as far as I remember. It all started after I loaded software for my HP 2410xi Photosmart all in one.

It was telling me to turn off certain things in bios, but I knew they were already set to off.

If it was a BSOD there would have been a specific message like "SOMETHING_WENT_WRONG" at the top, thats what tells us what went wrong, and thus is the entire point of the blue screen.

To stop it from Automatically restarting, right click "My Computer" and click "Properties". Then click the "Advanced" tab and click the button at the bottom that says "Settings". Now untick the box that says "Automatically restart" and ok that window and ok the other window.

To run a repair install, set the BIOS to boot from CD, and leave the XP/2k CD in the drive and press a key when it says "Press any key to boot from CD....".

When it comes up just select the option to install Windows. Then it should complain windows is already installed and tell it you want to do a repair install and it's pretty much all automated from there.

Can't even get into any of the safemodes, tried everything on the list, thats why I reset CMOS. Can only get it to a-prompt now. And its running at real low speed. It shows 1250 when it goes through the start. If I f8 I can get to advanced options menu, but I don't know which to choose.

OK, I'll try that if I can get into bios again.

I wouldn't bother. From the sounds of it something is massively wrong with your PC itself, so doing a repair install of Windows isn't going to help, if you can even get that far. Have you tried running memtest to make sure the RAM isn't dodgy?

Got to the cd, hit R for repair and it says setup did not find any drives, they are SATA and it's not finding them I guess.

You need a floppy disk with the SATA drivers on, i.e. the one that came with your motherboard/controler. Now when you boot the CD, and the screen first comes on, it should says "Press F6 to install 3rd Party SCSI or RAID drivers" hit F6 and it will carry on, and a bit later ask you what you want to do about drivers, put the disk in and press "S" and pick the right driver, ok that and ok the driver screen and it should all work.

I'm looking for updated SATA drivers now. Thnx, I figured I'd have to load those too. lol Only bad thing about this happening this morning is I have to do my business taxes today in order to get them in the mail first thing tomorrow. I'll get the latest SATA drivers and load them and let you know whats up.
