How's this for a rig?

edited September 2010 in Hardware
So, I've got this shit PC.
It's about 7 years old, no joke, and I've done pretty much all that I can to the best of my abilities towards making it better (This consists of putting a few Gbs of RAM in there after realizing last year it only had 512Mb. Also putting in a bunch of new HDDs and I think a 6 year old Graphics Card). So... Yeah, It's shite.

What I've decided to do is save my ass off to buy a brand new rig, hopefully in time for Portal 2. After doing some research in PC magazines I've decided to base it mostly off of PC Gamer's PC and some other things. After using google for the prices this is the list I came up with:
CASE - Antec 300 (£45 - Amazon) (Will be getting another one from my brother so this doesn't matter)
MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 (£62.59 -Amazon)
PROCESSOR - AMD Phenom II X4 (£65 - MicroDirect)
HARD DRIVE - Samsung Spinpoint EcoGreen F2 (£50 - Eclipse Computers (not bad for 1.5TB!!!))
3D CARD - HIS Radeon HD 5770 (£100 - b4udirect)
POWER SUPPLY - OCZ StealthXStream 600W (£30 - aria)

Total - £352.50

MOUSE - SAITEK Cyborg R.A.T. 5 (£47 - techBox)
KEYBOARD - OCZ Alchemy Series Elixir II (£7 - Kikatek)
MONITOR - Acer V173DOb (£95.50 okobe)

Total - £149.50
Total Total - £502

I don't really need the Mouse, Keyboard or Monitor so they are priced separate. As for RAM, I'll get that from my brother.

What do you think? Have I made any wise decisions?

tl;dr: My PC was made in 2003. I'm gonna save for a new one. I need advice about it.

I would really, really get a more modern chipset for the motherboard. Something from the AMD 890FX or 880G series will give you much more modern features.

Just saw one for £120. I've gotta think about price with this, unfortunately. Is it worth £60 more?

The one I saw must have been sold or something. I'll update the OP.

That doesn't sound right. I must have just made a mistake then...

Also bear in mind that while you are saving money on the components by buying from different retails you will have to pay 4 or five lots of postage and you may also have stock issue on some components. I did this when I made my second PC and I had to wait six weeks for my motherboard and CPU. My HD arrived within two or three days but I didnt open it because I didn't have any of the other components. When I did open it I found that it look like it had been dropped and the IDE socket was damaged and all the pins were bent. I phoned to arrange a return and they said that because I had had it for six weeks they thought that I had dropped it and they weren't prepared to refund it.

Have a look on Overclockers UK and Dabs. I get all my parts from one or the other now and I have had exceptional service from both. Overclockers are a bit more epensive but they specialise in higher end gear and are a bit pricier. Dabs have a more general range but seem to be slightly cheaper.

If I were in ol' Britannia, I'd be buying from Scan. Their stock is amazing.
