Laptop shuts down when booting if using AC Adaptor

edited October 2010 in Hardware
Hello, everyone. My problem is the following:

I have a Toshiba Satellite A30 which works perfectly well when using it's battery. This means normal boot, normal use of any OS, and the battery also charges when the AC Adaptor is connected.

Problem is, I'm completely unable to boot anything (not from hard drive nor Live CD) when I'm using the computer with the AC Adaptor and without battery. It always lasts for all the BIOS, then, when trying to load an OS, it shuts down without any warning, like if someone had plugged the AC Adaptor off.

Thinking of overheating I checked both CPU and heatsink, cleaned the latter, and nothing was solved. So, any clues? Do you have any idea of what could be causing the problem and how to repair it?

Thank you in advance.

It sounds like the AC jack is broken. This is one of the most common mechanical issues with laptops.
