System won't start with different video cards
The summary of my problem is that while no video card is installed the computer boots but with the old or even a brand new video card, nothing.
I turned my computer off because a lightning storm was approaching and the battery backup and surge protector (I hardly ever turn off my comp) . When I booted again the computer ran for about half an hour before it just powered down. -storm may be coincidence
It wouldn't start again so investigated the problem and found that the fan had fallen off of the video card. I re-applied compound and put on a strong bracket (as the pins seem to have melted but, I didn't see any other damage). Still the computer would not start with the card installed but without the card, it seems to start fine.
Naturally I assumed the card itself was the problem so I bought a new one and still the computer won't respond at all unless of course I remove the card. My knowledge to motherboards and power is limited so I need help locating the problem.
Any help is appreciated.
