Blue Screen Crash

Hi all,

I am reformatting a Toshiba Laptop with Vista Home on it. The reason for reformat was the constant freezing and complete slowness of the machine. The install went perfect as did the installation of service pack 2. When connected to the internet it connects to download 72 updates, it downloads these and installs some of them, the message I get is "25 updates installed" it says the rest unsuccessful. It then tells me to restart my computer which I do and then when restarting it Blue screens with the message un-mountable boot volume.

I have tried repairs and all the other options, but to no avail, I can't even start in safe mode.

Is there a possibility the hard drive is gone, How do I test this, I don’t have another laptop to put in into.

Any suggestion would be very very welcome.

Download UBCD, use it to test your HDD (Drive Fitness Test is one of many, the manufacturer's is preferred, but not necessary), RAM (memtest 86+), and you can also test processor, but the first two are much more likely culprits. You should also physically check connections, to ensure that all cables are firmly connected/snug.

    Just to update,

I ran the diagnostic software which showed a fault in the Hard-Drive. Replaced the harddrive and all is well again.

    Thanks for the link Tushon.
