Computer keeps shutting down/off

edited November 2010 in Science & Tech
Need help! At my witts end! May 2010 rebuilt my computer as it was continuously shutting down randomly. Replaced, powersupply, motherboard, video card, processor, everything replaced except the hard drive.

Since then I still get shut offs, and the shut offs happen anytime, I am playing Wow, or on facebook. Yet when my daughter is playing Sims she doesnt have that issue. the shut offs happen to me could be 2 mins into surfing the web/facebook. Or 30 mins into it, its very random and very very frequent. I have even taken off the side panel of my tower put a big floor fan parallel to the open panel and cranked it to high and have that blowing inside it. thinking its overheating. Still i get shut offs. The shut offs do not show an error, no blue screen nothing. It just goes off like if my power went out in my house. Does not restart, I have to manually restart it, and at times if I dont wait a moment or two it just shuts off again while booting up. Which lead me to believe there was an over heating issue with either the processor or maybe the video card, but I talked to someone who stated, if its a video card issue, I would visually see issues while either playing wow or another program, as my video would show boxes all over with pixels all jumbled. Which isnt the case here. Now since then we have pulled out the components and cleaned them as well thinking dust might be an issue. And we noticed the processor coolant gel was gone. Burnt up, we cleaned it up regel'd it and it seemed to stop shutting down for about 7 days, and it has started again. the processor is just above my video card, and this video card i noticed doesnt have a cooling fan built on it. looks like there is a spot you could put one. but came without one. Now what I am wondering now, would maybe the heat from the video card just below the processor be burning out that gel faster and causing this issue? As I was told the gel should last months on that processor not just a week.
Other few things I have tried I did scans for malware, and other virus issues. And that did not make a difference. I read somewhere to increase the virtual memory , so i cranked that right up to 4k from the 2300 it was at. And low and behold i get a shut off within 3 mins. So that didnt help, I have also installed a temp reading program . right now with just this site open and nothing else I have the temps as follows:

GPU: 50C
Temp1:36C
Temp2: 42C
Temp3: 45C
HD0: 29C
Core: 43C
Core: 50C
Ambient: 0C

Fan1 2567 RPM's

As you can see I am not over heating anywhere, altho it does show flame icons next to GPU and Core. Which means Hot. But as you see I dont believe 50C is hot. At most it has gone up to the 70's. So not sure if this is telling me something. And this could be causing my issues with shutoffs. If anyone knows more about this I would love to hear from you.

Here is a little more about my computer fyi if needed:

System:
Microsoft Windos XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Computer:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64X2 Dual
Core Processor 3800+
2.01 GHz, 3.50 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Oh yes I might add, I have updated all video card drivers.

Do you have separate user accounts for you and your daughter? It's possible that something under your user account is corrupted, some temp/cache file.
