First problem is your harddrive is full or at least thinks it's full. Before you can do anything you'll have to clean up some space.

Until that issue is resolved no other tests you run will work.

Maybe delete temp files off that drive then run chkdsk again?

He says he has 80GB free on C:, the drive he is trying to chkdsk.

    But his chkdsk reports otherwise.

looking at what he typed, he is running chkdsk on j: not c:

c: would have returned "cannot lock drive to gain exclusive access" or some crap like that.

He also said he had 50G free on the J drive, but his chkdsk still thinks otherwise.

well deleting did seem to work even though i deleted stuff after i made this post and scanned. after reading the reply i deleted more more or tried to but chkdsk had locked the drive even tho it finished and the window was closed. i disconnected and reconnected, deleted more, ran the scan again and it fixed all the errors then. it moved numerous files to the found.000 folder. i tried to move those files back to where they were and i get a Cannot create or replace, There is a file with the same name as the folder name you specified. Specify a different name. i ran chkdsk again and there are no errors but yet i cant see these folders. and a few files are 0 bytes. i cant delete or do anything with them either. it says the file is being used by another program. disconnecting and reconnecting the drive doesnt help. is there a way to fix this? thanks
