Every Sid Meyer game is better than the one before, so the newest game is the best.
Civilization V is certainly the best of the Civilization franchise, the new combat mechanics and the one-unit-per-square hex grid have vastly improved the Civilization game, among other changes, of course.
I did have a particular fondness for Civilization 2, although that's not because the game was better than the others Civilization games, it was because of a small program called civ2hack, which allowed hot-seat multiplayer of that Civilization game. Sadly, none of the civilization games since have had really good multiplier options. Civilization IV had the pit boss option, which was good but a little unwieldy. It is a little bit disappointing that they removed any one-turn-per-day style multiplier from civilization V, but we know that civ Meier is working on Civilization Network, which will play one-turn-per-day through facebook.
Civilization network may be the first facebook game for real gamers. It is difficult for us to think of facebook games as serious games but I know that Sid Meier's a serious game designer, so it's difficult for me to think that will create another stupid game like farmville or cityville or crackville or whatever the new one is called.
All the civ games are great, Civ II was probably the first one I played for an absurd amount of time. I also really liked Colonization (the old school one).
As for his non-civ games, Gettysburg and Railroads were quality games. I played Gettysburg until I knew every major engagement and each commanding officer by heart.
Sid just never made crappy games, it's hard to not respect that.
I respect Sid as the lord of the strategy games.
I enjoyed Alpha Centauri too.
But after playing too much time, I thought that I must be doing something more real
Player: By chance what is your first language? Judging by the way you speak (type) you learned english later. If so, where are you from? Always fun getting gamers in from around the world in these types of conversations (or in this case, having the thread started by a completely new member of the site, props)

I totally agree, Alpha Centauri was one of my favorite games of the 90s, hands down. Do want remake.

That said, I've only played Sid Meier's Pirates! and Civ V
