I am using Windows 2000 Pro, and ATTO tells me it cannot run on Windows 2000 Machines? So does PC Mark 2004

So, what should I do to kinda see what I am getting in speed terms for my HDD's, I know sandra is not reliable.

atto works fine on win2k machines. have used in on win2k win2k3 and win xp thousands and thousands of times in fact. And sad to say NO I am not kidding.

ATTO is a quick and dirrty answer for str. The test is only 32mb in length so fragmentaion doesnt really effect it. Sandra uses like 1.5 times your system memeory so they know your not using a huge disk cache to blur the results. And because it starts at the front of the disk and uses every stinking little piece of available space and and all disk fragmentation kills it. Also why the results are sometimes hard to replicate on a disk being used even later in the same unless the disk is empty.

I think hdtach is next to worthless unless your testing teh cables and stuff. It bypasses the dsik and OS filesystem so its results have almost no meaning to us in real life. For servers IOMETER is the absolute king.

For desktop I use three generally anymore. ATTO. Sandra and Winbench.

Now more important... why isnt atto working for you. What exactly does it say? have you downloaded the correct version etc... You know they make scsi Mac controllers right?

As usual, I try again and itw orks. But the message I kept getting before was that ATTO doesn't work with 2000 unless I BUY a Pro version of the program?

Something like that. I don't have PS installed on my machine yet, so I have the attached save file for ATTO. Is this any good for a SATA drive? WD 1200 8MB SE or whatever.

It is one of the latter partitions on the drive, yet it gets higher scores than the first partition.

?edit it won't let me upload :( gonna try something else.
