Duplicate messenger 'status' software?

This may sound like an odd request, but with something like MSN Messenger you can set your status and people on your contact list can see if you're busy, offline etc.

Is there any software to duplicate this without the messaging side of things? - So people could set their status and it could automatically set a status after say 5-10mins of inactivity?

Basically we're getting bigger and spanning multiple sites, we want a way to know if people are in the office or not besides emailing them or calling them and waiting for a response...

Any ideas guys?!

Office Comunicator does this and I am farly sure that Windows Live Messenger will do this too. I think it works on mouse and keyboard activity and then asigns your status as away if you have not used your computer. I think Busy has to be manually set as you could be working but still available to talk too.

I think both of those have messaging built in, we don't want there to be a messaging facility, just too easy to waste time on it!

You can disable messaging without disabling the whole program. Available via a registry edit at a minimum, which could be applied via Group Policy.
