AutoCad LT 2006 Windows 7 compatibility?

Anyone here an AutoCad guru? My office has several AutoCad LT 2006 licenses on existing hardware. They are transferable to new hardware, but I notice there are some listed comparability issues on Windows 7. We are going to make the move here, finally kicking XP to the curb.

Anyone running AutoCad LT 2006 just using Windows XP SP2/3 comparability mode? If so, how does it run?

I don't have access to AutoCAD 06, but AMD does have AutoCAD 2007 for testing purposes. So I installed 2007 and opened this printing press model that we use for benchmarking:

    Capture.PNG

This is a very intense model, designed to make a computer really work.

I'm running Win7 x64 on my HP EliteBook 8740w. I opened the same model in both AutoCAD 2007 XP SP3 compatibility mode and AutoCAD 2011. I rendered it in realistic viewport mode and spun the view around to check framerates.

The framerate was definitely better in AutoCAD 2011, but that piece of software is 64 bit, where the 2007 installation is not. The 2007 performance was still usable, but like I said, there's a noticeable difference between the two.

So assuming 2006 performs similarly to 2007, you could still get work done while running 2006 in compatibility mode. It's not ideal, but not a deal breaker either.

Thanks, this was exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Before we invest in what is essentially a small car worth of software we want to make sure we are getting some reasonable return in performance. It is one of those situations where many of the seats do fairly light work, but some work with more complex models. Either way, I suppose the upgrade is inevitable. What a racket!
