Help, My ethernet connection is disconnected

edited December 2010 in Science & Tech
Hi people,
I'm currently having some issues with my Home PC networking accesibility. I'm currently using a laptop connected via the ethernet so I know the issue is not with my modem or cables.

Last night after doing some music organisation in Itunes I decided to check if there were any updates availble with windows vista. There were a few noncritical updates that i decided to apply. (I know, I'm an idiot)

The Updates applied and all my networking connectivity was lost. In device manger in the network adapters section I had a dreaded yellow exclamation over Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter #2. From all i could forums, people have nothing but trouble with this driver. I couldn't understand the point of this driver so in my haste and stupidity I deleted it.

From there I have rebooted and tried to unistall and reinstall my network driver (Realtek RTL8168C/8111C Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIC 6.0)) several times to no avail.

I have attached a copy of my ipconfig /all query in a cmd screen. For further info.

Select the appropriate operating system from here, download the driver, install it.

Restart if asked, open a cmd prompt, type
    ipconfig /release

    then
    ipconfig /renew

and see if you have internet access

    Thanks for your input Tushon,
I wasn't sure where 'here' meant in your post so I just searched for a windows vista network driver and installed one I came across. The ethernet port seems to be working now and I have contectivity, but IE is stopping for some reason and coming up with and error message saying "internet explorer has stopped working".

I realise that this is a new issue, but I thought you might appreciate the feedback. I'll grind this one out and see how I go.
I consider my original issue resolved.

Once again, cheers for your help. Have a great new year.

That was here ... don't know what I didn't add the hyper link. Make sure that is what you installed.

Try running IE llike this and see if it works:
Here’s how you can disable all addons/extensions and run IE 7 or even IE 8 without them:
    • Go to Start > Run
    • Type iexplore -extoff
    • Press Enter
If that worked, then it is a problem with an extension that is loading with IE. Make sure you are running IE8 also. If that doesn't let it load, try resetting all settings to default
If the Internet Explorer settings are incorrect or add-ins go corrupt, the problem of Internet Explorer crashing or freezing can be fixed through the following steps:

    1. Close all open windows of Internet Explorer.
    2. Open a fresh window of Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu.
    3. In the dialog box that appears, select the last tab named Advanced (see figure).
    4. The last button in the Advanced page of the Internet Options Dialog is named Reset. Click on the button.
Resetting the IE browser settings restores your Internet Explorer to the state when you installed it. This means that it removes all additional add-ons that were added to the Internet Explorer either intentionally or unintentionally. Most applications add their own plug-ins, such as the Adobe Suite, which adds a PDF Convertor.
Please note that the Reset operation resets every user setting in Internet Explorer except the Favorites folder. After completing the Reset operation, check to see if your Internet Explorer is functioning properly. If yes, then there is no need for reinstallation of Internet Explorer.

Finally, try a reinstall of IE using directions here
