When I was in Tech school for Pc Operations, part of the deal when people bring in there pc to have it fixed, was if Norton or McAfee was installed, it was getting uninstalled because they made our job soooo much harder, they both (they used too at least) take total control of your system and lots of your user rights.

But as far as your problem, try spamming F8 or F10 at startup and get into safe mode, if it boots then, you can open Event Viewer in control panel, and see what is causing the error.
If all else fails, try the "Use the last settings that worked" option if you can.

Press F8 at "Windows" startup and select Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure.

Let us know what the BSOD info is...

But then again almost 3 months later :shakehead
    I'd have already reloaded it...

I'd download UBCD, burn to CD/DVD, test RAM with Memtest 86+, test HDD with the manufacturer's test of your drive. If it passes those things, then we can really look at troubleshooting it. The BSOD info might give us a clue, but I just like pointing it at the absolutely most common HW problems to get them out of the way first.

    http://tech.icrontic.com/articles/columns/fix-the-0x0000008e-bsod-once-and-for-all/3/

(which states that you should test HDD, RAM, and then attempt to repair/reimage)

    ^ Follow Tushon's advice first.

Other possibilities are Virus, Corrupted Windows Files, or about 15 other thing from Microsofts 0X21 error pages...

I'd get a copy of BitDefender Recover CD, burn it, boot it and Scan for Virus.
    http://download.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/

Other than that I'd backup up your data off of it to another HD in a different machine or with a linux live cd (Knoppix or Ubuntu).

Then do a system recovery from factory disks or with the Alt F10 at boot up since most acer owners don't make recovery disks... :)

    Good Luck
