That's pretty much the point of an SSD. You run WIndows and a few key apps that LOAD a lot of data.

I've been running a Raptor 10k for a while and like it, but I will be going to SSD for my next build.

Edit: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/263767-32-raptor-6gbps-mech-drive <-- conclusion there is same as Thrax's: get an SSD for your OS/intensive programs and high cap HDDs for storage

Get a 60-80GB SSD like the Agility 2 or Vertex 2, load your OS and Steam folders to it. Win at everything.

If you currently have a 7200 rpm HDD, switching to another 7200 rpm HDD wont give you a noticable difference in performance. You could do a raid.

Why are you against getting an SSD?

If you are just looking for a good HDD the Western Digital Black series has always been good to me.

My Steam folder won't fit in that... but otherwise I'd completely agree.

and some of us have single games that are 30+ gigs

I got a 90GB SSD thinking a 60|64GB would be too small. The 90GB is too small for me. So I just got some really fast 7200 HDD's and did a little Raid-0 for my games.

I recommend 120GB SSD minimum now, but I also recommend 8|12GB of RAM minimum now also ;)
