I actually really enjoyed XIII, and I'm hoping some good comes out of this sequel. I would love to see further development of the characters and lore.

Also, Versus XIII is starting to look really good.

I don't want to encourage Squeenix to get into the habit of milking sequels any more than they already are, but I have to admit that I am intrigued by XIII-2.

Like I wrote about in the review linked at the beginning of the article, I found the game's characters to be appealing and the world itself to be fascinating. The story of their struggle against oppressive living gods really pulled me in, and I would like to see how the story could be continued. The ending wrapped up most emotional things well enough, but I was still left wanting more exposition on the future of the characters. Just assuming that "okay, everything is going to be good now, even though you guys were number one hunted criminals up until now" wasn't good enough for me.

Also, Versus has me interested. The Kingdom Hearts-esque combat is exciting to hear, as I love action RPGs. The modern world with cities that look like a reflection of real-earth cities is also a really nice change of pace for me (the other modern-esque Final Fantasy games still had an over-the-top fantasticism to them, like FFVII's Midgar and it's upper plate level and it's oversized Mako electricity plants). But since the world is familiar, the telltale Squeenix hairdos a few of the characters feel REALLY out of place to me. They strike me more like anime cosolayers running around a city during a convention than the next wave if urban heroes.

Still, they both look like a fun ride. I'm looking forward to both.
