Thrax: Nobody will have to re-buy games. If they are downloaded from the PlayStation Store (which most titles have been for a couple of years now), they are fully compatible with the NGP.
Okay, I read the 'purpose' in the other article, but I still have a sneaking suspicion that this is mainly going to be used to make Japanese butt-poking/date rape simulation games.
If I already own the PS1 games, I have to re-buy them. I wish I could use the PSP2's supposed mastery of the virtual/real divide and scan my CD case to get a license for FF Tactics.
It's the same with PC gaming, thus "GOG.com". Yes, if you own games from 15 years ago, you will have to re-buy them. Same as "Dreamcast collection" and so forth.
You're paying for the convenience and awesomeness of them porting over old-ass content to a new generation of hardware. I have no problem whatsoever with re-buying old ass games.

That's like saying "I wish I could scan my floppy disks of old gold box D&D games and have Windows 7 automatically download a license of them." Come on.

That would be awesome.
They probably won't charge another $50 for FFT, but they probably will charge more than I'm willing to pay for their trouble of writing an emulator.
A new game from the creators of Rapelay and CSI:Hard Evidence: Fingered! Can you point out the suspect before the cosplayer is sexually harassed? Now with dual modes, where you can play as the investigator, or the criminal!!
I like the concept of the rear touch-pad, so you can have touch capabilities without blocking the screen with your fingers. The only real issue I can see with it is accuracy since you can't really see where you're touching until it's registered by the game.
I'm wondering how natural it will feel. It might just work.
I've seen demos of other devices where the back touchpad was part of a transparent screen, so you could actually see your fingers. That might be more distracting, though.

That's actually a very good point, a benefit I didn't even think of when I heard about the rear touch screen. You're right, my fingers getting in the way is one of my biggest gripes with traditional touch-screen displays. They're neat and fun and all, but... your fingers obscure your view all the time!

Also, for OLED alone... need a change of pants. Be right back...
tl;dr: The NGP is backwards compatible.

Wait. Fingerprints? Oh god.

Manlytears :*(
So, there's a boatload of tech going into the PSP2. I mean, yeesh. This thing is going to cost a fortune.
I cannot imagine it being cheaper than $300, or even $350. If it's anything less than $350, Sony is going to be losing a ton of money on it.
Awww... Game Boy.... ;___;
(and yeah, I had those same exact memories. I still have my "Brick", and he works just fine.)
It's probably some kind of 'Just in Case it has a use' feature.
