Outlook 2007

We are running Outlook 2007 on our computers, all of which are protected from viruses and adware/malware. When it does send/receive it causes the computer to slow down so much that you cannot use any other function or program until it has finished. Is there a setting that I should check or what? Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I tried what you suggested and it seems to have helped on the HP Laptop and the desktop.

I am still having issues with the Dell Vostro 1510. As I explained, it was a Windows Vista machine that had Windows XP Professional installed on it before it was shipped to us. I then added Office 2007 as one of the programs on the machine.

Suggestions on where we go from here. The computer really comes to a standstill when it is receiving email.

Install latest drivers available for at least the intel chipset, NIC, video card (though you should probably get most of them if you never did; don't worry about the dell stuff) on the off chance one of those is affecting it, download and run ccleaner (both temp file cleaner and reg scanner, just remove all and fix all, respectively). Run a Detect and repair errors from an admin account for outlook or office in general.

The Office Diagnostics encountered 0 problems, we already use CC cleaner on a regular basis, and all drivers were up to date. Where do we go from here?

Try running it in safe mode, if you don't observe the behavior, you know it is either a running program that is interfering or something with graphics/possibly some other driver.
