Re-installing GRUB Bootloader

Hi Guys,

I have been having some hefty problems with my PC of late which I think I have found the cause of. My system has always been dual boot with Ubuntu and Vista with GRUB2 bootloader.

I recently took one of the three HDs out of my PC to use as an External storage device on my freesat recorder. In doing so I inadvertantly severed one of the cables for the case fan that cools my HDs.

I have been having problems with system hangs and BSODs which I have already repared once before i descovered the dead case fan.

Anyway last night I fixed the fan but my Vista install was well and truely screwed beyond repair. I have run chkdsk to ensure disk integrity and reinstalled Vista but it is now using Windows Boot Manager and I cant boot to linux. Can I just install GRUB2 to get access back to Ubuntu or is it a bit more tricky? Ubuntu is installed on its own partition which host just the OS and programme files. I mount my Vista drive to save documents so I can just wipe Ubuntu and re-install if needed. I am debating switching to UbuntuStudio anyway so it may be easier to create a live disk of that and start a fresh. Just thought I would get some opinions and see what people think?

Thanks

Rich

PS Kryyst, this seems to be the cause of the problems in my other thread Avast/Thunderbird!
