Need help uninstalling 2 drivers (network adapters) from XP Home

edited March 2011 in Science & Tech
Hi. I am trying to uninstall 2 drivers (network adapters) from my computer. I have XP Home and a HP Pavilion dv4275nr laptop. When I go to the Device Manager and try to uninstall these 2 drivers, they simply re-install upon reboot. I want to permanently uninstall them. These are the drivers in question:

1. Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200 BG Network Connection
2. Realtek RTL 8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

Thanks to anyone who can help...

Just right click and select "disable".

No...that can easily be reversed. It's important that they be uninstalled permanently. I did some research online and found that it may involve deleting something called a .INF file(s)...but that was a little over my head. Thanks to anyone who can assist...For now, just having these devices uninstalled (without being able to automatically reinstall themselves upon reboot) is my goal.

Uninstall the drivers in Device manager.
Without rebooting, find the drivers in Add/Remove programs and uninstall them, then reboot.

Uninstalling these drivers, and removing them from the system, accomplishes nothing. Anyone can download them and reinstall them with an Internet connection, a flash drive, or any other storage you can think of.

Neither driver is listed in Add/Remove programs. The only Intel thing there is "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile." Also, for now just having these drivers uninstalled completely will suffice for me. I understand that there are workarounds, but for now this will suffice for my needs..I just want them to uninstall without being able to reinstall automatically upon reboot.

Turn them off in the bios then.

If you can't remove them in the 2 methods you have tried, you are down to finding the inf files and removing all of them manually.

Disable them so that the inf will actually delete (otherwise it is "in use").

To be honest, you are being really picky and unnecessary here.. just can't fathom how this has taken 2 threads to achieve your goal of no internet.

    Cancel your Internet connection.

    Done.

I think I will try to disable these 2 drivers in the BIOS, and then password-protect it. Anyone have instructions as to how to do that? Thanks

I doubt you can disable them both in the BIOS, here is the info it starts on page 33.
