Sony DW U10A to DRU 500A

I have an old mac pro which has the sony. It no longer reads DVDs. Does anyone know how to upgrade it to a DRU 500A? I tried, but the only suggestion I got was a Japanese language site and I can't read Japanese. Supposedly, Sony won't admit anything about the DW U10A since it was an oem device and never sold to consumers. Can anybody tell me how to upgrade it in English?
