I just have a quick question (sorry if I missed it somewhere in the FAQ):

Do I have to leave the system on all day and connected to the net like a server, or can I let it run whenever I have the computer on?

Thanks!

It just runs any time your PC is on, and you don't have to be constantly connected.

Any contribution you can make is viewed as positive. The more you leave your computer on the more work is done and the faster you accumulate points. More importantly, the more knowledge that is gained from the proteins can help speed potential drugs for the treatment of such disabilities as alzheimers. It is recommended that you leave it connected to the internet if you have a broadband connection or set the connection within F@H to be able to connect to the internet for dialup accounts. Be aware that if you leave it connected 24/7 on a broadband connection that a good firewall such as zonealarm (I personally recommend and is free for personal use www.zonealarm.com ) and a good antivirus running in the background is essential. The forums here are a great resource for configuring F@H and computers in general to keep them in top shape. Even veterans can learn a thing or two if they browse enough.

I'm glad you found it helpful Omatic. I joined the team only this past week myself and find it quite comfortable here. I'm sure you will too. Everyone here is very helpful and enthusiastic. I need help anchoring the bottom end of things and gladly hand over the rookie baton to you.

Check the FAQ folding thread for more info, but basically it cures diseases like alzheimers and the like. It makes you a better person and more attractive to the opposite sex. It also causes you to want to upgrade your rig constantly so you'll have more parts to make folding boxes.
