File Sharing, Connection Sharing, Patch Cable?

I'm thinking about getting the old Dell running again. I don't really want to run an ethernet cable across the room though.

So, can I connect it to my main rig through a crossover Cat5 cable (I'll have 2 ethernet cards in my main rig), and be able to access shared folders on the Dell, and the Dell able to access the internet (for folding)?

Thanks.

Pretty much. If the Dell doesn't have XP (don't know about 2k), you'll need to setup ICS.
