reformattion dell inspiron e1705

I have a dell inspiron e1705 with media center edition, having alot of problems with it. I borrowed a dell xp pro installation disc and reformatted it. i never got the enter product key window while installing and it finished and all was well, till i checked out my sys. info. and it showed 30 days behind the OS. although 3 days later it still showed 30 days. I cannot find windows activation in my all programs or sys. tools. Thinking i am going to lose windows! I have another dell xp home installation disc from another one of my older desktops that was original with the computer. I am thinking of trying again with this disc.

    Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Activate Windows
    or
    Start Menu -> Run "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a"

    Either will launch the activation program.
