BSODs, registry errors, oh my!

edited May 2011 in Science & Tech
Long story short, my computer hanged on me for quite some time, so I decided it was time to force it to shut down. When I restart, I get a white loading bar, then either of the two happens:
1. I get a message saying my Windows\config\system file is missing or corrupt 2. I get a BSOD BAD_POOL_HEADER, with a stop 0x00000C2 error.

So I pop in the XP installation disc, go into recovery console, and try the following:
1. chkdsk: "The volume contains one or more unrecoverable problems."
2. I try installing a new XP. As soon as it searches for previous editions of Windows, I get the BSOD again.
3. I try one of the windows solutions for the missing or corrupt file, but I get an "Access is denied" message in command prompt when I try to copy/delete files.

Any help is appreciated! Let me know if you need more info.

    Download UBCD
    Run Memtest 86+
Run your HDD manufacturer's test (or just Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test)
If those do not give fail results, follow steps here
