Why can't I put a 4 gig file on my 8 gig flashdrive?

edited May 2011 in Hardware
I have an 8 gig Patriot flashdrive with nothing on it & it won't allow me to put a 4.37 gig file on it. It says the file is too large for the the destination file system. Properties window says it has 7.45 GB available space. I don't understand what the problem is, can anyone explain please?

Thanks in advance for any input, ~Zendall

Because the flash drive is formatted as FAT32, which limits file sizes to 2GB. Reformat the flash drive as NTFS.
