9800 Artifacting After Re-Flash

edited January 2004 in Hardware
I recently got a "Built by ATI" 9800 np with Samsung 3.3 ns memory. I flashed it using a pro bios but it ended up producing artifacts. But after I reflashed it to the original bios, it still artifacts.
I had to get the bios online -- didn't have the original on hand. It file extension was ".rom" which I find odd because most are ".bin." But everything seemed successful.

The artifacts are basically lines across any moving parts of the action on screen. In any 3D app its totally screwed up, it looks like you're in a vortex of 3D textures flying by at warp speed.

One more thing -- in Rage3d Tweak, 3dMark, etc. it says the core speed of the card is 324.0 and the memory is 290.3. The core is fine, but on the ATI website it says the memory is stock clocked at 580...while other sites say bioses are clocked at various lower numbers (290 being one). I'm totally newb at this kind of thing, but Rage3D won't even let it go past 400. Obviously I don't know something.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix this? Should I reflash it with various similar bioses to try to see if it works? Should I lower the clock speeds? Should I return it to ATI and just say it acted up on its own(I would but I was not the original owner of the card, so I don't know if I need a receipt or proof of purchase)? Please help.

290.3 X 2(memory is DDR, remember)=580.6 MHz on the memory speed. That's what the stock np 9800 is supposed to have, from what you posted. Are you artifacting at the 290 mem speed or is it artifacting when you were trying to push it up to 580, which would be an actual 1060 MHz on the memory speed?

It's artifacting at 290...unfortunately. Thanks for clearing up the memory clock speed concept though.

I've tried about 4 or 5 more bioses without any luck. I think the card might be damaged. I think my best option may be to send it to ATI and see if they'll replace it. But if anyone can think of a better option I'd like to hear it.
    Thanks.
