World of Tanks

I'm curious:

Have any of you, before E3, heard of World of Tanks?

They had a very big presence at E3, with actual tanks being parked out front of the LACC, a large amount of floor space and a wild party after the show.

Nobody I had talked to had heard of this game before the show. There was a lot of head scratching and shrugged shoulders.

I mean, we're talking floor space that was bigger than many well-respected companies, such as Namco Bandai, Majesco, etc. Companies that people had heard of with actual gaming history.

At any rate, I'm wondering if I'm just living under a rock here...

I heard about it. A Norwegian gaming magazine had a (p)review a few weeks back. I haven't tried it, but they thought it was a good game.

I talked about it when it was released in my New Releases articles, and doubleObond has tried to get me to play a couple of times.

Everytime I hear more about it sounds compelling, then I go look at the screenshots and stuff, and a sense of 'meh' sets in.

It's perhaps my dislike of non-fantasy settings that does it in in my eyes. If they were space-tanks or something (but otherwise exactly the same game) I'd proly be all over it.

I'm just wondering where they got all their money. I mean, they had to have spent a considerable amount for their E3 debut.

It's a large investment in to what their estranged ceo sees the future of gaming monetization, digital goods. Sort of like tft2 hats for tanks. I am sure wargaming.net has a large base of initial investors, mostly foreign, that paid for this event. I doubt they are profiting yet. Looks kind of neat... kind of. I'd never heard of them until this post.

I've played it. They advertised on XFire, which I look at every day. It's more like Counter-Strike than TF2, except you have to real money of weapons. Not very fun.

I've put a ton of hours into WOT before it officially "released" with Double O and the gang, and I can say that the game is fairly well made. I would not recommend it however, because the game is ENTIRELY based upon grinding. It takes months to get the highest level tank of one type and nationality, and since the game is essentially Tank Wards 3D, you're not going to find much to be entertained by.

The teaser trailers on their website are pretty funny...
