Internet Explorer with Security Holes... Like that should be Surprising

edited January 2004 in Science & Tech
I think there might be a guy in Antarctica that does not know that Microsoft's Internet Explorer has security holes, but everyone else knows this.

An article written by Kieren McCarthy of Techworld.com claims that recent holes in IE coupled with previous holes could really cause Microsoft and its IE users problems.

[blockquote]Following the exposure of a vulnerability in Windows XP earlier this week, “http-equiv” of Malware has revealed that Explorer 6 users (and possibly users of earlier versions) could be fooled into downloading what look like safe files but are in fact whatever the author wishes them to be -- including executables.[/blockquote]

What caught my eye…? A similar problem, that has not been totally remedied, was found in 2001. Mozilla anyone??

My "favorite" part of the article:
We also have reason to believe there is no fix.

IE gets a lot of crap for having bugs, but i guarantee you mozilla based browsers have just as many. it's that market share thing determining which bugs become most obvious. IE bugs get exploited because damn near everyone uses it. it's not the best browser ever, but it's damn solid.

It's also because when a Mozilla bug appears, someone fixes it ASAP. When an MS bug appears, they claim it doesn't exist, announce it 3 months later, as well as a patch and claim that they "fix problems as soon as they arrive".

Took the words right out of my mouth. The mozilla foundation is REALLY into quashing bugs.. They are fanatical about it. Truly nuts.

There's a bit of a difference too - mozilla is transparent, open source code.
