dell 8400 drivers

edited July 2011 in Science & Tech
kind of a nightmare wading thru the google "suggestions"(crap) for dell drivers , i gave up, and bought a driver disc for the 8400 on ebay
its a 3.0 with an X300 card, tho this is unverified, cuz the card says nothing on it
but the disc is supposed to contain all the drivers dell ever required for any 8400 and there were several
hope this card works nearly as good as my BFG AGP 7800GSOC -yeah i know , wishful thinking
the audigy 2 driver was easy to find and install but the vid driver was killing me -download managers, ? i never had to download a download manager to download an nvidia driver - dell is weird - just hope it works out

What kind of video card do you have? A Radeon X300? Just get the latest version of Catalyst from game.amd.com. You don't need special Dell drivers.

i have no sure idea what this card is -tho the college i got it from isnt specifically known for random upgrades, this card is a twin dvi with a large ducted fan and none of the X300se cards i looked at had this type of fan , just heat sinks- i dont know how ill identify it , device manager knows nothing about it other than its not working because the drivers are absent
i did do a download from catalyst it was the latest , about 40mb and it was installing then several sections of the install had fatal errors and it basically didnt happen - ive never seen a card with zero identifiers on it , what i thought is maybe dell has them made in such high quantity that the maker leaves all makers marks off ?
my audigy 2 se that i found in it was proudly marked and signed by Creative in real gold on the breadboard --thanks for the reply-- can a PC tech store tell me what this vid card is?

Dell Drivers for your computer. If they didn't upgrade it, it can only be an x800 or x300.

This may help you identify the device. I can't recommend another method because it would require you having a copy of the GeekSquad CD.

thanks Tushon - the driver identifier (DI) was a step in the right direction - it finds my video card to be one of 30 different nvidia cards that apparently someone put in , (if there were only two ATI cards Dell put in the 8400) - DI did offer one driver as the most probable match , but then wanted $29 to let me download it with out saying which card i got not sure my next step - "Angie" or what was her name sensed i was about to leave the "buy it now" section in DI and sort of offered me the download for free but those offers IME are linked to spy or malware too (im just a little nervous with a new fresh as a daisy sata HDD )

    anything i do in the
well, if this is a nvidia card dell wont have my driver -- maybe the reason its not working in the dell site is dell goes in , finds the aftermarket card and isnt telling me its an aftermarket card, but the driver download refuses to start

Can you just take a picture of both sides of the video card? We could tell you what you have in about 5 minutes.

Nowhere. It cannot be purchased. It is Best Buy corporate property.

just bought on ebay a camera card reader to velcro on the side of this tower-driver troubles seem to be over, for a while - i downloaded from nvidia the drivers for the 6800 GTO 256 MB PCI , and it runs as good as my olde 7800GS OC did (in Quake4 anyway)
according to the sale posted in Amazon, Dell did have oem nvidia cards, this 6800 is one
