Half-assed Server?

I know that I've been away from the TF2 server for a while (and Icrontic in general for a while), but the Uber update has drawn me back...except our server seems, I dunno, half-assed. Nominate / RTV don't seem to exist any more, micspams are turned off, our custom maps are gone, and I've lost admin. I'd love to get Nominate/RTV and micspams back on, as they just add to that awesome Icrontic feel (Gotta be sneaky, Charlie!), but the biggest thing for me is admin powers. Now hold on, you say, you're just being selfish, Quady! I know it looks that way, since I'm creating this thread and all, but A. I'm not sure who's running the server anymore, and B. there are a few other Icrontigans who are lacking admin who used to have it.

What's the big deal, you say? The big deal is that with all the free to play players joining in (bless 'em!), we need more admins, not less. It used to be that unless there were a bunch of IC people in the server to get it started, it sat empty. Now it's full almost 24/7, except that it's full of Free to Play players...who don't really follow our community rules.

Banning douchebags and people with porn sprays and people who join the game just to call everyone homophobic or racial slurs was one of the big things that drew me to Icrontic's TF2 server in the first place, and what kept me coming back. Now, I barely want to play on the server unless there's a horde more IC people there, because it's full of those offensive sprays, idiots, trolls, and people whose names are full of obscenities and slurs.

Add in that the server is so full that I've had other IC people want to join me on the server but being unable to do so due to me not being able to kick for a clan member, like we did in the ol'e days, boyo.

It just feels like the server could use a bit more work, so that our TF2 community has a place to call home. :cheers3:

We recently moved the server to save $$, I believe Super-Linc is working on getting the previous admin's RCON back. We all want to help teh noobs.

I had to uninstall all the addons because the last update was crashing the server - it was a rough weekend for TF2. I'm sure you lost rcon during the server move - Brian's and my brains can only remember so much and we have very technical conversations like "Uhhh, who had admin?" "I remember 2." "Good enough for now."

FWIW, the rcon pass remains the same so you shouldn't have a problem kicking manually.

Yea, I've been running the same rcon as before and not having any problems, as for the SM_Admin, voting and stuff, that got screwed over a few updates ago.

I used to keep hlsw open on my laptop at all times, so I could help get regs in, and kick people, and change maps as needed, but I uninstalled it when it seemed like noone was playing. I suppose I should reinstall it.

Who didn't have admin is the question you should be asking. It seemed like everyone had admin before the majority of us stopped playing.

The majority of us may have had sv_admin, but a lot of us didn't have the rcon password. I know I didn't (and still don't).

And no worries! I understand that these things take some finicking and time, I just wanted to make sure people were aware of it.

are we running sv_pure 2 ? I was reading a reddit post about material hacks, and basically if you aren't it gives people wallhacks.

SV_Pure 2 also removes the ability to use sprays, which I think people will hate much more than the specter of wallhacking.

I think with all the f2p people around, it's much more of a real issue than before.

with some work, you can use sv_pure 1 and a decent config to block everything except sprays.

You can still use sv_pure 1, but we'd have to configure a whitelist of allowed mods, etc. It's a pain. I'm setting it to 2.

Man, never mind. Not giving up the ability to have custom sprays.

If someone wants to give me a perfectly configured pure_server_whitelist.txt that allows sprays while fixing the wallhack problem, I'll upload it and set it to 2.

While we're at it, what's it take to update our server these days?

The reason I ask is because there have been so many updates to TF2 lately that half the time I try to get on our server I'm met with a "This server is running an old version of TF2 so you can't connect KTHXBAI!" message. And that makes me a sad panda. Is it something an admin has to do manually or does our hosting company take care of it?

I wish there was a way to update the server via Rcon, that way any number of us could do it.

An admin has to reboot the server, but it has to be a full reboot, not the one issued from rcon.

I set up an auto-reboot every day at 7am EST. A full reboot.

Short of that, an admin has to log into gameservers and issue a full reboot. The admins are myself, lincoln, preacher, and jimmy.

If you're looking to add another person who <s>has no life</s> is usually online, I'd volunteer myself to have reboot powerz.

Well shit. Only thing I can think of, then, is that the updates usually happen mid-day, which leaves up to 19 hours of unavailability until the server reboots again.
