"Fancy" External Hard Drives

Having a discussion with an audio engineer friend of mine, he mentions that he wants to purchase a new external hard drive for his work.

He then tells me he wants to buy this specific drive claiming it's the premier external for audio engineers: Glyph GT050Q

Looking at this thing, it just looks like you are guaranteed an Oxford 924 chipset (which looks "ideal" for multi OS compatibility) and a Seagate 7200RPM 1TB 32MB cache drive (not even a nice ES drive with faster avg seek time).

Wouldn't buying the following (and saving a few bucks) be better?
HDD
Enclosure (Newer? Oxford Chipset)

edit: the fact that the glyph takes a standard power cord is a small bonus

Yep, and your links are mislabeled (HDD link goes to enclosure and vice versa)
