Old Question, New Twist

Howdy And Greetings:

This request for help concerns my emachines T3516 and speakers (EMC2.0-USB) not being recognized. I've ruled out hardware issues, and taken the advice of CB as listed in the thread below:
http://icrontic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66207

My problem occurs in trying to install the Sigmatel Audio Driver, which results in a "Device Object not found, etc..." message.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, and PLEASE HURRY! It's been over a day since I was last able to listen to my "Milli Vanilli's Greatest Hits" CD Collection including Bonus Tracks (well, actually, it's a floppy disk)...what? Too soon? (I can't actually apologize for that, but if someone ELSE says "I'm Sorry" I could lip-sync)

Thank You For Any Suggestions.

If you downloaded the sigmatel drivers off that page, and it says device not found, then there is a greater problem (i.e. a h/w failure) and I don't think anything can be done.

...however this exact same thing happened to me about a year ago, and I was able to fix it. I have seizures and forget things, so I wrote it all down for the next time I might need, but, funny story, I forgot where I had the notes.

Do you (or anyone) have any ideas?

    Thanks again, Tushon.

If the driver on the page I linked doesn't do it, then without being at the computer, I'm out of the running for ideas.

If you open the device manager and look under audio devices, what do you see? When there is a driver problem, normally you will see a little symbol with an exclamation point. Sometimes, if the hardware if the chip is completely borked, no audio devise will report there at all.

Open up the windows device manager, and let us know what you see under audio.

    Thanks, Cliff!

Welp, under the Device Manager, I noticed something that I missed before, but I have no idea what it could mean. It goes like this:

Everything under Sound, video and game controllers looks fine.

However, under Other devices, the first listing is Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, and the EMC2.0-USB speakers are the only thing attached that would qualify.

Does that help you to help me?

    I appreciate your time.

To be clear, your speakers are hooked up to a USB port on the PC, and not to the stereo mini jack from the on board sound card?

I'll put this in terms that I can understand, so temporarily drop your IQ a few dozen points to meet me down where I am:

The speaker system has two plugs, one a USB to receive power directly from the CPU; the other is a stereo jack, "the green one" that corresponds to the same-colored audio port on the back of the box.

    Thanx.

The USB connection may be interfering with the running of your sound device. Try this, disconnect those speakers, and uninstall the entry in your device manager which refers to a USB sound device. Reset your system. Get a pair of cheapo, no features headphones or earbuds (I'm sure you have some in a drawer somewhere, or a friend can let you borrow some). Plug these into the audio out port, and see if you get any sound out of them.

This is a trouble-shooting step which will help narrow down where the actual problem is with your sound system.

CB has it. It sounds like your speakers have some kind of oon board audio processing that may be creating a conflict.

The times I encountered speakers like this while at one of the big box stores, the USB only powered the speakers. Do you have another computer available that you can test the speakers on? CB's headphone test will also rule if the sound card is functioning normally or not.
