51 Yr old Woman turns Geek!!!!....Argh!!

Guess it had to happen. In the last 12 months my wife has turned from someone who did accounts and a bit of office type work, into a Geek. LOL.

Lately she has learned to re-format, re-install, tweak, turn a network nightmare into a piece of cake, setup adsl on usb and ethernet modems, started making animated graphics with PSP8 and who knows what else.:type:

Cruizin around on the net last night i showed her a thermaltake case, just so she knows what other people have out there. Well, that was it. She had to have it. Then our 300w psu was not good enough. No, MUST have more power. Get me a 480w psu. Wants coloured lights, needs more fans.
Get on the phone tomorrow and organise it for me.

Managed to get what she wants. 1x Thermaltake Xaser III V1000A. Had to be that one because of the colour, etc. 1x Thermaltake 480w psu. Waiting on a phone call so we can go and pick it up. She also now wants round cabling, so the cooling is better and it looks nicer as the V1000A has a window.

I've created a monster. She is no spring chicken. 51 yrs old, self taught with computers. Also has a bad back so when leaving the house she is in a wheel-chair.

Though she does not go onto forums, bit shy, i do tell her about my exploits and this is how she got to know about modding and overclocking/tweaking.

Told her, as we are getting a new case etc, need someone to put it all together. NO WAY.....I want to do it myself. Can't be that hard. We'll do it together.

Who to blame????????????? in short: "Short-Media". Why? Because they have an article on cases. There is also an article on how to build a computer.

SEE........It's all YOUR fault!!!!!!!! LOL.:nudge::thumbsup:

That's the next step - you have to help her get over that. Remind her that she can be as anonymous as she wishes behind her username and avatar.

Besides, we don't bite. (But watch out for Teh WuGgaRoO...)

    Great story!

Am I the only one who thought that the thread title actually was:

"51 Yr old Woman turns Greek!!!!....Argh!!"

... :wtf: ... how, exactly, does one "turn greek"... ;D

I know a woman who did (sort of). She just finished medical school. Her dad is Jamaican and her mom is Greek. She always went by her Jamaican last name and considered herself to be Jamaican (that's where she grew up). Then she found out that there was a scholarship available to medical students of Greek extraction. Suddenly her last name was Papacharalambou (no kidding - mom's maiden name). $$$

Of course, it could refer to something else... :hair:

Short Media. Bringing Couples Together Since '03!

I wish my wife was as intuitive with computers as yours is. She's surrounded by them at work but still calls me regularly to ask me how to Unzip a zip file, open an e-mail attachment or play an mp3. LOL

Gnome, as per your past history, you could always set your G/F by the wayside, fly to australia, pick one up there, leave her, then pencil one in for your return home.

Well, back in the 90's I knew a Gal like that. But she had already become a geek, and did so professionally as well as for hobby. she had a Commodore 64 at home, and at work had an IPC worth of computers to control process streams on-- at KMart HQ's IT Operations Center in Troy MI.

Interesting person. We could talk practical IT, and she was smart.

Still wonder where Bluelight Special is today.... She was about 9 years older than me then, would be 60-something now.... I still have her Time Mangement book, not that she needed it (I did, though). AND still have a book about not forgetting dreams in the goal\aspirations\wishes sense and do have a business down here as that was my dream-- an IT business. She was doing what I wanted to do then.

The extreme end, though, is the current HP president.... So, you folks that have wives that are willing to learn with you are lucky. Be happy you do not have the relationship where the lady is teaching you, that's humbling stuff. :D:D

In my case my wife has surpassed me by quite a bit when it comes to software issues. Also network and modem settings. Told her i'm going to get her a job as consultant, so i can retire. LOL.

Hey can't we just cut gnome some slack. I mean the title says that the woman is 51 years old. How many men in gnomes age do you know that goes after women in that age. Then again some do. :).

BTW when thinking about most of this thread it seems pretty :topic: to the folder it's in. Wouldn't the pub be better. That case doesn't seem to need much modding since it's supposed to have it already. Now gnome do you mind pm:ing me with that pic you're talking about.
