Hello all. My name is Gary and i was gifted a gaming custum built pc. I need to figure out whats inside this thing and what its capable of? Any suggestions?
Fire it up, open up the Control Panel, the look at the System information. It'll tell you what the processor and RAM are. Also, when the computer boots up it should tell you what video card it's using.

And is Microsoft security essentials good or is there a free antivirus or spyware kinda stuff?
I have a norton 2011 internet security. Should i install this?
Do not install Norton anything; it will slow down your computer something awful. Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty much good enough, as long as you keep up with the updates.
Your computer was a gaming PC a while ago, but it's out of date and will probably have trouble with the very latest games coming out (like Battlefield 3, etc.)
We need to know what video card you have installed.

Gifted a whole computer? Can't complain about that but ewwww. Definitely going to need more RAM at some point too which is a problem when the MB only supports 2 gigs.
not to be rude, but my cell phone has more power than this PC
it will be perfect for office and internet browsing.
could do windows 7 and get a nice 7200rpm hard drive and be able to do TF2
or just get a new PC for $600 and call it a day
