Verifying Best Video Card

edited August 2011 in Science & Tech
Some time ago Mathew Everett gave an excellent overview of the minimum specs for a decent gaming computer.

on the graphics card section, he specified
Geforce 7800GT or above / Radeon X1800XL or above / All SLI systems
as being the top.

I am not a techie but getting ready to purchase a new laptop for gaming and office work at the same time.

How does a NVIDIA GeForce GT550M 1GB graphics with Optimus compare to the above?

Thanks for your feedback.

the 550m is a mid-range GPU erring on the side of slow for gaming. Look at options containing the Radeon 6870m or the GeForce 560m as a starting point for gaming.
