OK, two days ago, there was a loud POP and then smoke comes out of the side of this unit. Crap. I have since gotten a new case and motherboard and have begun putting it together. For whatever reason, I can't get anything to show on the monitor with just the motherboard, video card, and monitor attached, I think the ahrd drive may be shot and I am really in need of the information contained within. What should I do???

Well, first of all... if you can't get anything to show up with just the motherboard, video card and monitor then your problem isn't the hard drive. Your hard drive may still be bad, but it isn't likely that the HD is causing the problem. When you got a new case did you get a new power supply too? Just curious... if you have a new mobo and new power supply and it won't POST, then you may have a problem with your video card. More info would help...

Video card tested fine on a different system, new PSU with case, swapped the processor from the old system, Still won't post, what do I need to do to get it to post to BIOS? That is the first issue. Once that can happen, then the HD can be addressed. How can I get to the BIOS with a new board, PSU, and VIdeo Card?

Seeing as how the processor is the only item in that group that is from the original machine, perhaps it got fried. Do you have another processor or another machine you could test that processor in? Do you hear any beeps when you turn it on? What happens when you try to boot it up?

Don't have one, not hearing any beeps either. The directions with the motherboard were somewhat vague as to how the PC speaker hooked up but I think That is right. If the CPU is fried, will BIOS not start up?

Does the system continue to run after you turn the power on or does it shutoff? If it shuts itself off, try removing the CPU. You won't be able to see anything once you start it up, but if it doesn't shut itself off then the CPU is most likely the problem.

edit: If the CPU is damaged, you won't be able to reach the BIOS.

It will shut off if you hold the power button in for five seconds. Should I try taking out the CPU and trying to get to BIOS?

If you take out the CPU then your video card will not function... so you won't have any display. Sounds pretty strange to me... is the video card from the old system too? Perhaps it is the problem. The best thing you can do is find someone that has a video card and a processor that you can borrow. Test both and find out which one is causing the problem. Try to eliminate every possibility until you find the problem.

The video card has been tested and it works, the mobo is new, so it must be the CPU then?

Sounds like it to me. Either try to test it on someone else's machine or try another processor in yours. Do you have RAM installed on the mobo? If the RAM is not seated properly or in an incorrect configuration it may not POST... but then again the speaker should sound if that's an issue. Hopefully your speaker is hooked up right.
