HP Laptop, New Hard Drive

hello, i just bought a new hard drive. When i turn on or restart my laptop, it shuts down suddenly and start again and I receive a message that there might be a possible error in my new hardware (which is my hard drive).

What can I do to fix this?

    UM, let us start with some questions. Are you running Windows-- if so, what version (like XP, Vista, Windows 7, 2000, etc)? Next, how old is the laptop, and have you checked on HP's support site for a revised BIOS for your model laptop? Next, have you gone to the mfr' of the Hard drive's site and gotten a drive checking program--( techs would call this a HDD diagnostci) and run it? Next, if you do not understand this, call HP's tech support.
