A friend of mine is looking for a storage solution for media. This will likely not be backed up, so it's be nice if it were reliable. Any suggestions? Price range is ~ $100.
Thanks!

$10 off with EMCKAKB39
For $80 you can't argue with this. That is allot of cheap, fast portable data.
Every one of those drives are to be absolutely avoided. Make all the dismissive claims you want, but 10+ people claiming it lasted less than 3 months is not "whiners" or any other excuse you care to come up with. That's enough indicator to determine a significant failure rate, period. Especially when you see the exact same thing at BestBuy, Amazon, and every other seller.
In other words, all those drives are crap.
Just get an external enclosure and a quality drive from Microcenter and call it a day. That's the only reliable one left, seems.
*shrug* Take your pick. Personally I'd recommend Samsung HD154UI's (1.5TB 5400RPM) if speed isn't a major concern, I've got a quartet that have taken a pounding and keep running flawlessly. Any drive that has a history of motor problems, start issues, or issues with sleep states should be avoided though, which means avoid Seagate. (Long and repeated history.)
