Can other devices (Laptop, Phone) connect at the second location?

My first thought is that the router at the second location is not setup for DHCP meaning it will not automatically assign an IP address.

Check out a device at the 2nd location that can connect. Look and see if it has a static IP or is getting a dynamic address. This should help point you how to setup the PS3 for the second location.

I don't understand why the router would work in one place but not the other

I don't know how to tell a static IP from a dynamic. Is there a differance between a switch and a router it is a switch. Sorry not a tech guy(obviously)

Maybe I misunderstood, are you saying it is the same router? That you are taking the router to location number two and plugging it into a modem?

Ok, so the first thing to look at is how the connection at location #2 is setup. Do you have any devices that have/can successfully connect at location #2 before you brought the router into the equation? (For example: did you have a computer that could surf plugged straight into the modem at location #2?)

Also to answer your question I am able to connect my laptop to the router and it does work fine. My ISP says I don't need a login name/password to use it is just plug and play but when I first used the internet modem I was rquired to creat both a name and it assigned a password but I would think/hope that my ISP tech support would know id I had to do the whole log in thing.

Ok, good info. So you have Modem wired to Router wired to Laptop and you can surf. What version of Windows is on that Laptop?

Oh, more good info. So you can plug your computer straight into the modem and surf.

Have you tried the PS3 straight into the modem to see if it can see a connection like that?

also just to be double sure there is no wireless involved here anywhere correct?

So do I understand correct that you can plug your win7 machine into the modem and surf web pages, but you can not surf with the win XP machine plugged straight in?

Do you know if you have a static IP on the Win7 machine?

Are you able to surf on the XP machine if you plug it into the router with the router plugged into the modem?
